SILCOTEC'S SELF-BONDING SILICONE COMPOUNDS
Product Information
Introduction:
The SilCoTec SCB system is an innovative approach to bonding high consistency silicone rubber (HCR) to various substrates. This approach allows SilCoTec to customize its self-bonding compounds to bond to a specific substrate. When using a SilCoTec self-bonding compound, improved bond strength combined with a more durable bond between the silicone rubber and the substrate are to be expected. All of the above is accomplished without the use of a prime coat.
Uses & Applications:
SilCoTec's self-bonding compounds work in applications that require silicone rubber to bond to a substrate. Some of the substrates that can utilize SilCoTec's self-bonding compounds include the following:
Metals – Stainless Steel, Anodized Aluminum, Titanium, Chrome Plated Steel
Plastics – Radel, Udel, Ultem
Rubber – Neoprene Rubber, Silicone Rubber
Misc. Polymers – polycarbonates, PEEK
Advantages:
Some advantages of using a SilCoTec SCB System compound include:
- The Bond Strength and Bond Durability of SilCoTec's SCB system are superior to standard methods of bonding, including prime coating. Lab data and field trials have all demonstrated SilCoTec's self-bonding compounds' ability to outperform other methods of bonding silicone to a substrate.
- Eliminate inefficiencies and costs of prime coating. Possibility of eliminating post cure without sacrificing properties, Bond Strength, or Bond Durability
- Customized compound that will fit an application based upon physical properties, processing characteristics, specification callouts, and a customer's specialized requirements.

Special Applications:
In addition to standard self-bonding compounds, SilCoTec can offer self-bonding compounds that are:
- Addition cured, as opposed to peroxide cured
- Have conductive properties, including high conductivity requirements for FDA & Medical applications

Requirements for Best Results:
For optimum results when using SilCoTec's self-bonding compounds, the following tips should be kept in mind:
- The current shelf life for our one-component, self-bonding compound is set at 1 month. If a longer shelf life is required, a two-component system can be developed that will allow for a shelf life of 6 months or longer.
- SilCoTec's self-bonding compounds are not substrate specific. As such, it is strongly recommended that the mold be Nickel-Teflon coated in order to prevent mold-sticking issues.
